Philippians 4:4-9 (CEB)

4 Be glad in the Lord always! Again I say, be glad!

5 Let your gentleness show in your treatment of all people. The Lord is near.
6 Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks.
7 Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.
8 From now on, brothers and sisters, if anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things: all that is true, all that is holy, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, and all that is worthy of praise.
9 Practice these things: whatever you learned, received, heard, or saw in us. The God of peace will be with you.

Philippians 4:6 (CEB)

6 Don’t be anxious about anything; rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks.

DEVOTION – Phil Cages (Alaska)

For 14 years I worked in a sporting goods store in Anchorage, Alaska.  One day as I was coming from the warehouse to deliver a few items to the store, an irate customer met me when I walked through the store entrance.  She was livid and began a tirade of complaints about a  previous purchase.  As I listened to her, I noticed that she was wearing a T-shirt with “Focus on Jesus” written on the front.  I thought to myself:  Lady, you are one big hypocrite.  The Holy Spirit immediately brought me up short saying,” Are you going to lose your focus on Jesus, too?”

With a sigh, I admitted that my focus was more than a little blurry.  I began to pray silently for the woman.  Before I knew it, I felt God’s peace and she regained her composure.  She left as a satisfied customer, and I enjoyed God’s peace in a way I never had before.

Philippians 4:6 comes to mind more and more as I seek to maintain my focus on Jesus:  “Don’t be anxious about anything rather, bring up all of your requests to God in your prayers and petitions, along with giving thanks.”

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Peace is only a prayer away.

PRAYER: We thank you, dear God, for peace that you give in the midst of troubling moments.  Help us call to you at such times so that we can be a channel of your love and understanding.  Amen.
