1 Peter 4:10-11 (NIV)

10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

DEVOTION – Gary Hubley (Maine)

My wife belongs to an art group that meets once a week to pint pictures, usually in watercolor.  All the artists are very talented; yet each has a different style.  One time, my wife showed me a group of paintings all based on the same photograph of a house and property.  I couldn’t believe it.  The pictures were vastly different, but I could see the similarity by looking at the photograph.  The artists had all viewed the same picture then used their talents and imagination to create beautiful-but-different paintings.

I see a lesson in the work of these artists.  We all have been given circumstances in our lives, and God wants us to use our talents and imagination to create a beautiful environment around us.  Sometimes our circumstances are common-place or dull, and sometimes they are ugly or threatening.  Sometimes we think they are so wonderful that we don’t know how to improve on them.  But God wants us to put our own touch on them, to fill them with our love and make them beautiful for others to see.  As a result, people will know that God is working through us.  That’s one of the ways people get to know God – by seeing God working in us and through us.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: What picture of God does my life display today?

PRAYER: Generous God, guide us to use out talents to create a picture of your love for others.  Amen.
