Psalm 37:3-6 (NIV)

3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.  5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

5 Trust in the LORD  with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

DEVOTION – John Allen Berry (Tennessee)

My young grandson loves playing and swimming in the pool.  When he was barely two years old, I watched as he walked out onto the diving board, ready to jump into the water.  Being the ever-cautious grandfather, I was very scared for him.  He looked down and said, “My daddy catch me.”  What trust he put in his dad as he leaped into the deep section of the pool!  He was absolutely certain his dad would reach out and catch him when he hit the water.

I will never forget his words.  Would that we could put much faith and trust in our heavenly “daddy.”  Jesus directed us to consider the example of children.  We adults often fear situations that might overwhelm us.  Bur if we hold fast to God’s hand, knowing that our heavenly Father loves us, we have no reason to fear.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: God is our ever-present help in every situation.

PRAYER: Dear heavenly Father, we thank you for your love and care.  Help us to put our trust in you in every situation and to know that you are there to catch us when we fall.  Amen.
