Galatians 6:2-10 (NIV)

2 Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.  3 If anyone thinks he is something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.  4 Each one should test his own actions. Then he can take pride in himself, without comparing himself to somebody else,  5 for each one should carry his own load.  6 Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.  7 Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.  8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.  9 Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.  10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NIV)

11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.

DEVOTION -Jason Ponzio (Georgia)

When I was a teenager our church had a weeklong revival meeting.  The first evening I didn’t find anywhere to fit in.  I was too old for elementary programs and too young for the high-school kids.  I remember sitting under the basement stairwell of the parsonage as someone was heading down to the high school group.  When he saw me, he paused and stopped to talk with me.  That night, without really knowing it, he changed my life.

Most of us have encountered someone who made a profound positive difference in our lives and in our walk with Christ, someone who took time with us at a pivotal point when no one else did.  But how often do we think about doing the same for someone else?

In our Christian faith, we need people who will take the time to guide and teach us.  At the same time we have friends who hold us accountable and encourage us.  Perhaps most importantly, we can bear one another’s burdens and share our faith with others.  That way, we all help each other grow in faith.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Who needs me to notice and reach out to them today?

PRAYER: Loving God, grant us wisdom and insight so that we can encourage someone today.  Amen.
