Isaiah 40:26-31 (CEB)

26 Look up at the sky and consider: Who created these? The one who brings out their attendants one by one, summoning each of them by name. Because of God’s great strength and mighty power, not one is missing. 27 Why do you say, Jacob, and declare, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD my God ignores my predicament”? 28 Don’t you know? Haven’t you heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the creator of the ends of the earth. He doesn’t grow tired or weary. His understanding is beyond human reach, 29 giving power to the tired and reviving the exhausted. 30 Youths will become tired and weary, young men will certainly stumble; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.

Isaiah 40:31 (CEB)

31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength; they will fly up on wings like eagles; they will run and not be tired; they will walk and not be weary.

DEVOTION – Frederick L. Stevens, Jr. (Florida)

During a recent pane trip, we began to experience some strong turbulence.  The plane began to shake; my drink almost spilled, and the pilot advised everyone to remain seated with our seat belts securely fastened.  I became more and more uncomfortable and worked hard not to be afraid for our safety.  Just then, the pilot made another announcement.  He said he was flying the place to a higher altitude where the air was smoother in an effort to get above the turbulence.  He succeeded.

As I reflected on what had taken place, I was reminded of how eagles allow the wind to carry them above any storms they encounter.  Isaiah 40:31 tells us that when we trust God, we can rise above our troubles and abide with God rather than allowing  our troubles to weigh us down and make us anxious and fearful.

Now when I find life’s storms bearing down on me, I make every effort to rely on the Holy Spirit to carry me to God where I can experience God’s protection, provision, and peace.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: With God’s help, we can rise above today’s problems.

PRAYER: Gracious Lord, thank you for reminding us that we can rise above the troubles in our lives by setting our hearts and minds on you and on heavenly things rather than on earthly things.  (See Col. 3:2.)  Amen.
