Luke 10:21-24 (NRSV)

21 At that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. 22 All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”

23 Then turning to the disciples, Jesus said to them privately, “Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! 24 For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.”

DEVOTION – Ruth M. Santana Borquez (Los Lagos, Chile)

We were a young couple with two young children, Bastian and Rayen.  When Bastian learned to speak, I taught him to pray.  We prayed together every evening.

One day I was surprise when my son said, “Mommy, why don’t we ask Daddy to pray with us?”  I sadly recognized my failure to include my husband in our prayer time.  But I was filled with joy that my young son asked to have his father join us in daily prayer.

Since then, each day begins with our family of four joining hands with God, the fifth and integral member of our family.  God, with infinite wisdom and love, placed a child in our lives to lead us.  Eleven years have elapsed, and our relationship with God and our family prayer discipline still remain strong.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  Who’s waiting for an invitation to pray with me?

PRAYER:  Loving God, forgive us for failing to invite those near to be part of our relationship with you.  Strengthen us in our life of prayer so that we may live out our devotion to you in all we say and do.  Amen
