1 Thessalonians 5:14-18(NIV)

14 And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. 16 Be joyful always;  17 pray continually;  18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

James 5:16 (NRSV)  The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

DEVOTION – Susan Scott (Texas)

Some days I wake up praying and go to sleep praying.  Other days I think, I don’t really have anything to pray about today.  Then all it takes is a few moments of reflections for me to realize that whether everything is moving along smoothly or falling apart in my grasp, there is always something to pray about.

Days that flow nicely are a great time to be thankful and to pray for others who are suffering.  I can ask God what I can do this day to help a friend or neighbor.   Maybe it is my turn to be the answer to someone else’s prayer.  We pray readily when life seems to be falling apart and we feel unable to change our situation. But our prayers can change our circumstances.  God still answers prayers, every day.

Whether I need an answer to my prayers or I can be the answer to someone else’s prayers, I need to pray.  Prayer changes everything!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Today I can be the answer to someone’s prayer.

PRAYER:  Dear Lord, in good times and in bad, we praise you for all that you are doing in our lives. Help us to reach out to those for whom we pray. Amen.

PRAYER FOCUS: Those waiting anxiously for God’s answer
